Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant

Leveraging Resources for Maximum Impact

REQUEST: Fund the Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant at $1.31 million. The flexibility of this grant allows each state/territory to address its unique public health challenges and target resources where funding is most needed. Our FY 2011 requested funding would restore the grant to its funding level a decade ago.

Recommendations for the Reauthorization of

Elementary and Secondary Education Act and No Child Left Behind

REQUEST: Promote the health of youth and help ensure our nation’s future by requiring that all school districts provide a strong preK-12 health education instructional program built upon the voluntary National Health Education Standards and delivered by a qualified teacher workforce.

Healthy Schools, Healthy Youth

Improve the Health of Children and Invest in Children's Health

REQUEST: Promote the health of youth and help ensure our nation’s future by requiring that all school districts provide a strong preK-12 health education instructional program built upon the voluntary National Health Education Standards and delivered by a qualified teacher workforce.

Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACHUS)

Invest in Proven Evidence-Based Community Programs to Eliminate Health Disparities

REQUEST: Support a FY 2011 request of $50 million to fully fund the REACH U.S. programs present in 40 communities and 21 states. Funding has not kept pace with inflation over the last decade. Most REACH programs were not eligible for ARRA prevention funding and yet are working in communities that are among the hardest hit by the recession. With significant budget challenges at the state/local levels, REACH programs provide an important safety net to help eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities and close the health equity gap.
